This week I had the pleasure of chatting to the amazing designer behind one of my all-time favourite indie brands out there, formerly known as The Completist – the fashion-inspired paper goods and stationery brand that is stocked in over seventy stores worldwide, that was launched by Jana Pavasovic from her London flat eighteen months ago.

After walking away from – in her own words – an anxiety-inducing career in the fashion industry to launch her own business, Jana (pronounced “Yana like banana” in case you were wondering…!) has grown The Completist into a well-established stationery brand within what is, in the grand scheme of things, a relatively short period of time. On a rainy day in London a few weeks back, the two of us sat down to discuss everything from how she’s learnt to focus on and embrace her unique style to ensure that she stands out from the endless rows of stationery designers at all the top tradeshows and learnt to adapt to the ebbs and flows of self-employed life by shifting her focus during the quieter months. We also chat about how she went about seeking office space in London and preparing for the upgrade from flat to office from a financial perspective; to the more challenging reality of how she manages self-care, relationships and work/life boundaries when she is, in her own words, a self-confessed “workaholic”…

Put simply, Yana combines undeniable talent and trend-setting creativity with a work ethic that’s steadfast and core values that underpin everything she does and as a result, has created a business in the form of The Completist, that’s only set to soar…
